Aftermarket LED Tail Lights Explained
After purchasing a vehicle there are several aftermarket upgrades which a person can perform to give their car, truck or SUV its own unique style and look. One such aftermarket upgrade is installing LED tail lights which are designed to last longer than other types of lights and operate brighter, which makes the vehicle more visible to other drivers on the road.
LED means light emitting diode and produces light by using a semiconductor to create energy and release it in the form of light. LEDs were invented in 1927; however, there were no realistic uses for the bulbs at that time so the technology did not make any advancement until the 1960s. In the 1960s LED lights started to be used in clocks and calculators. The use as LED tail lights would still be about another forty years later but now that the technology was being used advances and improvements would be made.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s advanced in LED technology allowed for the light bulbs to be made that could produce light equivalent to 30 watt light bulbs with additional research, which led to LED light bulbs being able to produce light equivalent to 60 watt light bulbs. LED tail lights produce enough light to be seen from a distance but only use a fraction of the power to generate this amount of light.
LED tail lights remain cool as the result of not needing much power to operate and as a result LED bulbs can last a long time ranging from 25,000 up to 100,000 hours of use depending upon operating conditions. Factors such as hot environments, wet and damp conditions and always on use can shorten how many hours the LED bulbs will last. Replacing LED bulbs on certain brands of aftermarket accessories, involves just replacing the LED bulb that stopped working.
LED bulbs come in a variety of colors including red, orange blue, green, yellow, violet, infrared, ultraviolet and white. LED tail lights can use both red and white LED bulbs in their construction depending on the make and model of the vehicle. The white LED bulbs would be used for the back up or reverse lights on the vehicle, while the red LED lights would be for braking, turn signals, and night time driving.
LED tail lights are common as standard equipment on high end cars, trucks and SUVs, but anyone can purchase aftermarket accessories to upgrade their vehicle and give it the same style as these high priced vehicles. When shopping for a LED tail light assembly for your vehicle there are different manufacturers which use different processes, such as fusing all the bulbs to one circuit board, and when one bulb goes out the entire assembly.
Other brands of LED tail lights from other manufacturers like Spyder, Eagle Eye mounts each bulb individually so when one LED light fails, the individual bulb can be replaced rather than the entire assembly. Slick Car, www.slickcar.com carries LED tail light assemblies for most models of car, truck and SUVs as well as engine, exterior, interior and other aftermarket accessories.
